Heartful Editor is currently searching for a new Director of Academic Coaching and Editing!

Heartful Editor partners with campuses to provide academic writing coaching and editing support to graduate and doctoral students, in addition to working with individual students and faculty on all stages of the writing process for course papers, theses and dissertations, and manuscripts for publication. Our practice is focused on providing support and encouragement to help scholars find their voice, strengthen their writing, and make a positive difference in the world through their research. Heartful Editor’s team of doctorate-educated academic coaches and editors upholds the highest standards in our work with students and faculty to provide a caring, educational, and productive editing and coaching experience.

The Director of Academic Coaching and Editing coaches students, faculty, and academic and career professionals on writing and the mechanics of style, including reading and reviewing all documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency in formatting, and alignment with style and campus guidelines; suggesting alternative words or phrases, providing guidance on sentence and paragraph structure, and advising on flow and organization of ideas; providing students, faculty, and academic and career professionals with a thorough overview of areas that need attention and improvement; tracking all edits and changes for students or faculty to review and accept or reject; effectively using word processing functions to format page numbers, page and section breaks, tables of contents, lists of tables and figures, and related formatting tasks; and maintaining consistent and ongoing communication with students and faculty to ensure steady support over length of the project so students and faculty are not adversely affected by lack of support. As the Director of Academic Coaching and Editing, duties also include quality assurance and project management for any projects in process by the academic coaches and editors who serve on their team, including providing coaching and guidance for continued skill development. Other duties may be assigned, as needed, based on the Director’s capacity to perform tasks beyond Heartful Editor’s core services.

The requirements for the position of Director of Academic Coaching and Editing include:

  • Extensive knowledge of academic writing, publishing, and the thesis/dissertation process
  • Experience leading a team on successful completion of complex projects with shifting and competing timelines
  • Exceptionally strong expertise in the mechanics of writing and technical proficiency in the standards outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA, 6th and 7th Editions)
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, writing skill development, human growth and development, and culturally responsive and inclusive practices in education
  • Earned doctorate in the social and behavioral sciences from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Proficiency in providing academic writing coaching and editing support for scholars
